PLA fibers are a type of biodegradable and biobased synthetic fiber derived from renewable resources, primarily corn starch or sugarcane. The process of PLA fibers production typically begins with the fermentation of sugars to produce lactic acid, followed by condensation or ring-opening polymerization to form PLA. Once the PLA is synthesized, it can be processed into fibers through methods such as melt-spinning or solution-spinning. PLA fibers exhibit excellent strength and thermal stability, making them suitable for a variety of applications, including textiles, non-woven materials, and packaging. Additionally, they offer good dyeability and a soft feel, making them an attractive alternative to traditional petroleum-based fibers in the pursuit of sustainable materials.
