Cyclodextrins (CDs), are a group of cyclic oligosaccharides produced from starch or starch derivatives by enzymatic conversion. They were first described in 1891 by A. Villiers as digestion products of potato starch obtained by using the bacterium Bacillus amylobacter. Owing to their ability to solubilize and stabilize guest compounds, CDs can be widely used in medicine, industry and basic sciences.
CDs contain six or more glucopyranose monomers linked via α-1,4-glycosidic bonds. The most prominent members of the CD family are α- (six glucopyranose units), β- (seven glucopyranose units), and γ-CD (eight glucopyranose units). The basic properties of our cyclodextrins are listed below:

In addition to the basic cyclodextrins listed above, we provide a wide range of Cyclodextrin Derivatives. (Click for more products)
Derivatizations are done to accomplish the following objectives: to enhance the solubility of different CD derivatives and the complexes; to improve the fitting and/or the association between the CD and its guest, with concomitant stabilization of the guest, reducing its reactivity and mobility; to achieve insoluble, immobilized CD-containing structures and polymers.
Due to unique property of forming inclusion complexes with diverse molecules, CDs offers versatile benefits in many industries. Its main applications are listed as follows:
In addition to the various applications of CDs at the present time, CDs have ample scope in future also involving the evolution of new CD derivatives as well as the demand of already existing derivatives. Up to now, there are more than 50 marketed formulations, which contain CD complexes with drugs and a range of excipients are available commercially. For future prospective, CDs might prove to be beneficial to introduce some better changes with respect to formulation or it may help in drug delivery of protein, peptide and oligonucleotide dosage forms[1].
