Cellulose Nanofiber (by Mechanical Method)

Cellulose Nanocrystal

Cellulose nanofiber (CNF), derived from plant, is one of the most abundant all-green resources on earth. Many attractive properties of CNF (such as high strength, high stiffness, low density, low thermal expansion coefficient, and easily modifiable surface) make CNF an ideal nanoscale building block for constructing macroscopic high-performance materials. The main ways to prepare CNF include TEMPO-mediated oxidation and mechanical treatment. Hydroxyl and carboxyl groups on the surface of CNF prepared by the former way make it easy to disperse in water and the solution is translucent. For the latter, there is only hydroxyl group on the surface, and solution is milk white.

Preparation Method

The mechanical methods of preparing CNFs can be divided into grinding, high pressure homogenization, ultrasonic treatment, etc. Alfa Chemistry cellulose nanofiber (by mechanical method) is produced by mechanical grinding.
