Biobutanol

As its high energy density and molecular similarity to gasoline, biobutanol is perceived as a suitable replacement for conventional petroleum-based fuels. Biobutanol can be produced by fermentation of renewable resources, such as sugar beet, sugarcane, corn, wheat, lignocellulosic biomass, starch-based waste packing peanuts, and agricultural wastes. The benefits of biobutanol, when compared with ethanol, are that biobutanol is immiscible in water, and it has a higher energy content and a lower Reid vapor pressure. Besides, biobutanol can be directly utilized in internal combustion engines without the engine alteration. Alfa Chemistry is a reliable supplier of biobutanol.

Production Pathway of Biobutanol

Acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation to produce biobutanol was the most established and largest fermentation process during first half of the 20th century, but later with the advent and strong rise in petrochemical industry, ABE fermentation declined. The good properties of butanol as fuel extender for the replacement of fossil-derived transport fuels, together with the versatility of the production organisms to ferment most sugars present in nature, have recently renewed interest in its fermentative production from renewable biomass resources. The process of biobutanol production with lignocellulosic feedstocks is as following [1].
