The gallnuts contains highest constitute of naturally occurring tannins: gallotannin, ellagic acid, and glucose. Gallnut, from the oak tree, is one of the best tannin sources that you can use in natural dyeing in the mordanting process. It is favored by natural dyers as it does not impart a strong color to the fabric by itself. Gallnut is used to dye any fiber like cotton, silk and wool.
