MarigoldMarigold

Marigold, produced from dried and ground flower heads, contains mainly two classes of pigments, flavonoids and carotenoids. As the increase of extraction time and temperature, the extraction of dye from flower is increased. While when overheating occurs, some dye material is charred. Marigold yields warm yellow, yellow-green and olive with a moderate light resistance and wash fastness. Marigold has no side effect on skin, and it has no harmful effect on environment.

Dyeing Processes

  • Pre mordant: Use alum 15% of fabric weight.
  • Dyeing: The mordanting samples are immersed in dye bath for 2 hours at a temperature range of 80°. Use at 20-30% of fabric weight for a medium depth of shade. With the addition of iron at 2% of fabric weight, warm olives can be made.
  • Post treatment: Conduct soaping of the dyed material with non-ionic detergent (0.5gpl) for 20-30 mins.
  • Hot wash and then cold wash.
